Penn State will be without two offensive assets at wide receiver, and one on the defensive side in their 2025 campaign.

Penn State received the great news earlier this week that star tailbacks Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen will return for 2025, but their top two wide receiver targets, Harrison Wallace III and Omari Evans, are hitting the transfer portal.

Additionally, linebacker Kobe King announced right before the deadline that he would enter the 2025 NFL Draft in April.

If Nick Singleton hadn’t received wise words from his father, Tim Singleton, during his official visit to Notre Dame, he just may be rushing for touchdowns in South Bend, Indiana rather than State College, Pennsylvania.

When Singleton visited Notre Dame officially in June 2021, he was ready to commit to the program and at-the-time head coach Brian Kelly. He made a call to his dad, who was with our recruits’ parents, and preached patience to Nick. The family still had official visits to Texas A&M and Alabama to make, and it was important to see those through.

18 days after that official visit to South Bend, Nick Singleton committed to Penn State in his backyard. The decision came down to the Fighting Irish and Nittany Lions, and it wasn’t easy.

Singleton got to know players at Notre Dame. He spent time at Brian Kelly’s house on the lake. He was told he could be the next running back to take the Fighting Irish to the national championship.

Now, he wants to do anything but put Notre Dame in the national championship.

Currently, Singleton is fourth in rushing yards out of running backs still competing for a national championship. But, he’s one of the best rushers in the country who is sharing handoffs with another powerful back on the team. Singleton shares handoffs with Kaytron Allen, who has 54 more handoffs and 11 more yards than him.

In the college football playoff quarterfinal against Boise State, a game that Penn State underutilized the rush attack, Singleton got 12 handoffs for 87 yards and a score, leading Penn State into the CFP semifinal against the school he nearly chose.

In retrospect, it would’ve been a big loss if Singleton had passed on Penn State. He was the Gatorade National Player of the Year and was clearly going to be an impact player wherever he decided to go.

James Franklin has instituted a slogan that Penn State now lives and dies by in recruiting: The Best in PA, Stay in PA.

At the time, Penn State just missed on Southern Columbia wide receiver Julian Fleming and Warwick offensive tackle Nolan Rucci. They both ended up transfering to PSU from the Big Ten programs they originally chose, Ohio State and Wisconsin.

Plus, the idea of having Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton in the same backfield evoked, and continues to evoke fond memories of having Miles Sanders and Saquon Barkley together.

Both Sanders and Barkley were part of the “Best in PA, Stay in PA” deal, as Barkley came from Whitehall High School outside of Allentown and Sanders from Pittsburgh’s Woodland Hills. The two both stamped a great impact on Happy Valley before NFL careers.

The same will happen for Singleton and Allen. However the next two games go, their impact is well-documented and they will both play on Sundays.

Luckily, Penn State doesn’t have to worry about what Singleton looks like in Notre Dame blue and gold.

But, we’ll see him and the Nittany Lions against them on Thursday, with a trip to the national title game on the line.

Penn State is going to the College Football Playoff semifinals after a 31-14 win over Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. The Nittany Lions got out to another 14-0 lead in to begin the game, and once again seemed in control at all points in a win over the Mountain West Champs.

With one bowl win under their belts, they’ll go from Glendale, Arizona to Miami, Florida. The next assignment is the Capital One Orange Bowl, facing the winner between Georgia and Notre Dame. But first, it’s time to reflect on what allowed PSU to get the job done against Boise State in Glendale.

Penn State had white hats on moments after their 38-10 defeat of SMU in the first round of the College Football Playoff, a matchup between two conference runner-ups that was controlled by PSU completely. SMU never led in this game, and it was evident from the first quarter that they may not be ready to handle Beaver Stadium in December.

Those white hats had the word “Fiesta” branded across them, and that’s the next destination for this Nittany Lions team. Penn State is heading to the Fiesta Bowl for the eighth time in program history, the first since 2017, and more importantly, the first time as part of a path to the National Championship game.

With 6:37 remaining until halftime in West Lafayette, Indiana, it was time for the Nittany Lions to dive into a bag of tricks that involved their most consistent, most valuable offensive asset of the season, tight end Tyler Warren.

Warren took the direct snap, immediately fired to the right side of the field to quarterback Drew Allar, and Allar threw it back to a mobile Warren who caught the ball and rushed downfield from the line of scrimmage, 48-yard line to the ten yard line for a 38 yard gain on the double pass.

Nick Singleton, a Governor Mifflin grad, followed it up with a ten yard touchdown run and Ryan Barker knocked in an extra point to put PSU up by 18 going into halftime.

It wasn’t a 48-yard touchdown, and it doesn’t fall into the “Heisman Moment” category, but it’s revealing of how consistent Tyler Warren has been for the Nittany Lions this season, leading the team in receiving with 808 yards, a 355-yard gap between him and Harrison Wallace III, who takes second in total receiving yards.

Despite the 11-2 finish and strong start from the Nittany Lions in 2019, they still couldn’t get over a major hump in the program that has been a source of struggle since a historic 2016 game.

Beating Ohio State.

This Saturday, Penn State has a chance to beat the Buckeyes for the first time since 2016, a historic 24-21 win for the Nittany Lions that will forever live in State College history.

PSU prides itself on recruiting from inside the state, keeping the best football talent in Pennsylvania in its home state. It’s led to some of the best players in the program’s history, including Saquon Barkley, the aforementioned Parsons, and current greats like Nicholas Singleton.

In 2019, a prospect from Downingtown West High School emerged, a three-star, the 11th ranked player in Pennsylvania. He recieved nine offers, three in the Big Ten in Minnesota, Rutgers and Maryland. He committed to Kansas State on June 23, 2019, spent four years with K-State before transferring to Ohio State for his senior season.

The offer he wanted and didn’t get five years ago? Penn State, the school he grew up worshipping and dreaming to attend.

“I cannot wait. It’s gonna be a homecoming. I grew up a Penn State fan. I wanted to go there my whole life. They didn’t think I was good enough. I guess we’ll see next week if I was.”

This season, the senior Buckeyes quarterback has found the endzone 22 times, 17 by passing and five on the ground. He’s got a completion rate of 74%, the highest of his college career.

The meeting between Nittany Lions is one of the most anticipated, which is contributing to the attendance of both mainstream college football morning preview shows, ESPN’s College GameDay and FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff. It’ll be the 13th time that College GameDay broadcasted at the site of a Penn State-Ohio State meeting, the most frequently used matchup in College GameDay’s 37-year history.

The focus for Saturday has quickly shifted from a superstar matchup to Drew Allar, the Nittany Lions’ starting quarterback, and what his availability will look like ahead of the season’s biggest game.

On Saturday night, facing Wisconsin, Allar exited late into the first half with an apparent left-knee injury. After an attempt to warm up for the second half, the Nittany Lions moved on to their backup, Beau Pribula.

Pribula, a Central York alumni, stole the show, completing 11 passes on 13 attempts, throwing for 98 yards and a touchdown. Pribula is adds a mobility factor under center, which he’s proven over his first two seasons in Happy Valley, rushing 77 times for seven touchdowns in two seasons.

Penn State enters the meeting as the favorite for the first time since 2017, a game that PSU still lost. The Nittany Lions are looking for their first Buckeye win since 2016.
